Generalmente con “La Ciociara” ci si riferisce al capolavoro registico di Vittorio De Sica del 1960, ma non tutti sanno che sul finire degli anni ’80 fu realizzato un remake sotto forma di miniserie televisiva in due puntate che, oltre alla storia ovviamente, ha altri due elementi in comune con l’originale: la presenza di Sophia Loren come attrice protagonista e di Armando Trovajoli in qualità di autore della colonna sonora (nel primo caso le session originali sono andate perdute per sempre).
Nonostante sia stata composta negli anni ’80, la colonna sonora di questa versione de “La Ciociara” non risente minimamente delle sonorità imperanti dell’epoca ed è infatti interamente costituita – fatta eccezione per il breve divertissement di “Clock Curiosity” – da numerosi tasselli orchestrali e sinfonici, perfetti per il periodo storico in cui è ambientata la storia de “La Ciociara”, la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
A rendere ancor più particolare questo lavoro è la presenza della stessa Sophia Loren alla voce in tre composizioni, due cantate in inglese – “A Word of Love” e “Somewhere a Dream” – e una in dialetto napoletano – la conclusiva “Ma Dio Addo’ Sta”.

Generally with “La Ciociara” (internationally known as “Two Women”) one refers to Vittorio De Sica’s 1960 masterpiece; few people know that, at the end of the 80s, a remake was made in the form of a 2-episode television miniseries which, in addition to the story obviously, has two other elements in common with the original film: the presence of Sophia Loren as the leading actress and Armando Trovajoli as the author of the soundtrack (the original recording sessions seem to have been lost forever).
Although it was composed in the 80s, this version of the score is not affected at all by the trending sounds of the time, and is in fact entirely based – with the exception of the short “Clock Curiosity” divertissement – on various orchestral and symphonic pieces, perfect for the historical period – during the World War II – in which the story of “La Ciociara” is set.
The presence of Sophia Loren herself on vocals in three compositions, two sung in English – “A Word of Love” and “Somewhere a Dream” – and one in Neapolitan dialect – the final track “Ma Dio Addo’ Sta” – makes this work even more special and unique.
