Nati nel 2014 a Verona grazie all’iniziativa del cantante e chitarrista Valerio “Willy” Goattin, i Galaverna hanno esordito l’anno successivo con una gemma ispirata alle sonorità progressive-folk nordeuropee intitolata “Dodsdans” (La danza della morte), un concept album che esalta il fascino di una natura pura e incontaminata ma al tempo stesso crudele e letale per gli esseri viventi che le si volessero avvicinare.
“Wagdans” (La danza del fauno), composto in periodo di lockdown da Valerio e registrato da una line-up per metà completamente rinnovata, è seguito naturale del precedente album, le cui battute finali raccontavano di un pianeta ormai inospitale, completamente ricoperto di ghiaccio. Grazie a una produzione più calda e organica, questo album celebra invece un ritorno alla vita, accompagnando con le proprie sonorità acustiche e bucoliche l’immaginaria danza pagana del Green Man, mentre rende nuovamente floride le terre un tempo inospitali del nostro pianeta.
In questi anni di riscoperta delle sonorità del rock progressivo anni ’70, i Galaverna sono in tra i pochissimi che osano esplorare il lato folk del genere; se i gli scandinavi Kebnekajse e Ragnarök e i più recenti Landberk, Elds Mark e Jordsjø vi dicono qualcosa – insieme ad altre leggende britanniche del calibro di Trees, Mellow Candle e Tudor Lodge – “Wagdans” è senza dubbio il disco che fa per voi!

Founded in 2014 in Verona by singer and guitarist Valerio “Willy” Goattin, Galaverna debuted one year later with a gem inspired by Northern European progressive-folk sounds named “Dodsdans” (The Dance of Death), a concept album that celebrates the charm of a pure and uncontaminated nature that reveals to be, at the same time, cruel and lethal for the living beings who want to approach it.
“Wagdans” (The Dance of the Faun), composed by Valerio during the lockdown and recorded by a half-completely renewed line-up, is a natural follow-up to the previous album, whose final verses tell of a now inhospitable planet, completely covered with ice. Thanks to a warmer and more organic production, this new album instead celebrates a return to life, accompanying with its acoustic and pastoral atmospheres the imaginary pagan dance of the Green Man, while making the once hostile lands of our planet flourish again.
In these years of ’70s progressive rock sounds rediscovery, Galaverna are among the very few who dare to explore the folk side of the genre; if the Scandinavians Kebnekajse and Ragnarök and the more recent Landberk, Elds Mark and Jordsjø tell you something – along with other British legends such a Trees, Mellow Candle and Tudor Lodge – you’ll be absolutely delighted by “Wagdans”!
