Archangel è lo pseudonimo dietro il quale si cela Gabriele Manzini, tastierista degli Ubi Maior (dal 1998 ad oggi) ed ex-componente dei The Watch (dal 2000 al 2005). Nel 2009 ha esordito con “The Akallabeth”, un lavoro hard-progressive-folk ispirato alle opere di Tolkien, a cui è seguito nel 2013 “Tales of Love and Blood”, album dalle contaminazioni gothic metal e new wave anni ’80.
L’elenco degli ospiti è come sempre nutrito. Le parti vocali sono affidate all’espressiva voce di Giancarlo Padula, cantante degli ottimi The Forty Days. L’assetto ritmico è retto dagli ormai fedeli Davide Martinelli alla batteria e Walter Gualtiero Gorreri al basso, mentre le chitarre sono suonate da Alessandro Dovì, dal primo chitarrista degli Ubi Maior Stefano Mancarella e da Marcella Arganese, attuale axe-woman del combo milanese.
Con questo terzo disco, Archangel si evolve e muta ulteriormente il proprio stile: senza rinunciare a doverosi riferimenti ai Genesis del periodo “A Trick of the Tail”, prende inoltre spunto da Alan Parsons Project e Mike Oldfield a livello di produzione e atmosfere sonore. “Third Warning” è dunque un lavoro maturo e ben congegnato, a cavallo fra la nostaglia per certe sonorità tipiche del rock progressivo e intuizioni più moderne e dirette.

In 2009 he made his debut with “The Akallabeth”, a hard-progressive-folk work inspired by Tolkien’s creations, followed in 2013 by “Tales of Love and Blood”, an album with gothic metal and ’80s new wave contaminations.
As usual, this record sees the participation of various guest musicians. Vocals are entrusted to the expressive voice of Giancarlo Padula, singer of the excellent band The Forty Days. The rhythm section is supported by long-time music partner Davide Martinelli on drums and Walter Gualtiero Gorreri on bass, while guitars are played by Alessandro Dovì, Stefano Mancarella and Marcella Arganese (respectively past and current guitarist in Ubi Maior’s line-up).
With this third work, Archangel evolves and further changes his style: while still being influenced by Genesis, especially from the “A Trick of the Tail” era, it also takes inspiration from Alan Parsons Project and Mike Oldfield in terms of production and sound atmosphere. “Third Warning” is therefore a mature and well thought-out work, balanced between the classic progressive rock nostalgia and more modern and immediate music ideas and solutions.
