“Santa Sangre” è un film del 1989 diretto da Alejandro Jodorowsky e scritto dallo stesso regista in collaborazione con lo sceneggiatore Roberto Leoni e il noto produttore Claudio Argento; un’opera surrealista e avanguardista, allucinante e psichedelica e dalle tinte orrorifiche, i cui temi trattati includono quello dei traumi infantili e del rapporto tra madre e figlio.
In questo album ci sono tutti gli ingredienti tipici dello stile di Simon Boswell, multi-strumentista, produttore musicale e autore di oltre cento colonne sonore, nonché già collaboratore di registi del calibro di Dario Argento, Clive Barker e Danny Boyle: in “Santa Sangre” troviamo quindi musica rock ed elettronica, non distante dalle sonorità dei Tangerine Dream degli anni ’80 e ’90, combinata con maestose partiture sinfoniche; in questo caso inoltre, data l’ambientazione principale del film, girato a Città Del Messico, non mancano numerosi richiami alla musica popolare e tradizionale dell’America Centrale.

“Santa Sangre” is a 1989 film directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky and written by the Jodorowsky himself in collaboration with screenwriter Roberto Leoni and well-known producer Claudio Argento; a surrealist and avant-garde work, hallucinating and psychedelic and with horror tinges, whose themes include that of childhood trauma and the relationship between mother and child.
This work includes all the typical elements of the style of Simon Boswell, multi-instrumentalist, music producer and author of over one hundred soundtracks, as well as former collaborator of film directors such as Dario Argento, Clive Barker and Danny Boyle: in “Santa Sangre” therefore we find rock and electronic music, reminiscent of the sound of Tangerine Dream during their 80s/90s production, combined with majestic symphonic scores; also in this case, given the main setting of the film, shot in Mexico City, these tracks include various references to popular and traditional music from Central America.
