Direttamente dalla terra del Sol Levante, il primo, meraviglioso full-length dei Kiku Latte (ex-Cichla Temensis) su AMS Records!
Nati nel 2006 come Cichla Temensis sotto forma di trio prog-rock strumentale, hanno pubblicato nei primi anni di carriera due EP, “Another Triangle” (2007) e “Affine Space” (2009), due lavori trainati dall’energia e dalla tecnica del bassista Takumi Kokubu.
Dopo lo scioglimento del gruppo del 2012, proprio all’iniziativa del bassista è dovuta la rinascita di questa misteriosa formazione come quintetto, con una line-up completamente rinnovata che include oggi un tastierista e un chitarrista. Dopo un terzo EP, “Fantasia”, pubblicato nel 2019, la band ha cambiato nome in Kiku Latte e ha finalmente esordito sulla lunga distanza con “Stories”.
Se paragonato con le precedenti release, “Stories” evidenzia una notevole maturità e crescita artistica; le composizioni, articolate in numerosi cambi di tempo ma perfettamente bilanciate, raggiungono qui un livello superiore rispetto al passato, dove la sezione ritmica si intreccia con le trame di chitarra e tastiere, fornendo adeguato supporto per la linea melodica disegnata dal flauto. “Stories” è quindi un album di rock progressivo variegato, che unisce melodia e musica classica passando attraverso jazz, rock e funk, e si chiude in gloria con la cover di “House of the King”, sentito omaggio ai Focus, una delle principali fonti di ispirazione della band giapponese.

Born in 2006 as Cichla Temensis as an instrumental prog-rock trio, they released two EPs in their early years, “Another Triangle” (2007) and “Affine Space” (2009), two works driven by bassist Takumi Kokubu’s energy and technique.
After the 2012 break-up, the same bass player brought this mysterious ensemble back to life as a quintet, with a completely renewed line-up that now includes a keyboardist and a guitarist. After a third EP, “Fantasia”, released in 2019, the band changed their name to Kiku Latte and finally made their full-length debut with “Stories”.
Compared with the previous releases, this record shows a remarkable maturity and artistic growth; the compositions, structured with various rhythm changes but perfectly balanced, reach here a higher level than the past, where the drums and bass lines intertwine with guitar and keyboard textures, providing adequate support for the lead flute melodic line. “Stories” is therefore a variegated progressive rock album, that combines melody and classical music through jazz, rock and funk, and ends in glory with the cover of “House of the King”, a heartfelt tribute to Focus, one of the main sources of inspiration of the Japanese band.
In short, a wonderful full instrumental album for the lovers of classic prog-rock, filled with fantastic flute work!
