“Gamma” è uno sceneggiato italiano del 1975, uno dei più importanti tra quelli realizzati in quegli anni: una sorta di mini-serie TV che unisce giallo e fantascienza, in una storia che pone interessanti interrogativi etici di carattere scientifico e medico.
La colonna sonora di “Gamma”, composta e diretta da Enrico Simonetti, è un connubio perfetto di musica classica, jazz e pop, con incursioni in territori prog e funk-rock. Il 45 giri del tema principale raggiunse all’epoca il primo posto in classifica, un successo che spinse la Cinevox Record a pubblicare l’anno successivo un LP con i due brani “Gamma” e “Drug’s Theme” realizzati appositamente per lo sceneggiato, e altre composizioni scritte da Simonetti. Come molte produzioni di quegli anni, la realizzazione della colonna sonora di “Gamma” è ancora oggi circondata da un alone di mistero, ma è certo che i Goblin, all’epoca freschi della pubblicazione di “Profondo Rosso”, abbiano preso parte alle registrazioni: “Drug’s Theme” in particolare sembra uscita direttamente da una jam session dell’allora quintetto romano.

“Gamma” is a dramatic Italian TV show from 1975, one of the most important of those made in the same decade: a mini-series that combines mystery and science fiction, in a story that raises interesting ethical questions of a scientific and medical nature.
The “Gamma” soundtrack, composed and directed by Enrico Simonetti, is a perfect combination of classical, jazz and pop music, with forays into prog and funk-rock territories. The main theme 7-inch released at the time reached first place in the charts, a success that prompted Cinevox Record to publish an LP including the two tracks “Gamma” and “Drug’s Theme”, especially written for the TV show, together with other various songs composed by Simonetti. Like many productions of the time, the making of the “Gamma” soundtrack is already today surrounded by an aura of mystery, but it is certain that Goblin took part in the recordings right after the release of “Profondo Rosso”: “Drug’s Theme” in particular seems to come straight out of a jam session of the then quintet from Rome.
