One of the many bands that should have received far more consideration than they did is Murple, who released a unique and magnificent album on the German label Basf in 1974. This album represents one of the few Italian productions for that label, which, unfortunately, took no interest whatsoever in promoting the group and released the record long after its recording.
This is a pity, because ‘Io sono Murple’ is an extraordinary album right from its striking fantasy cover, which originally features a gatefold insert containing the lyrics of the songs. The Roman quartet, with a long experience behind them, performs the tracks impeccably.
The album features one long suite, divided between the two sides of the disc, based on the story of a penguin. Although some textual passages may be naive, the musical part is of the highest quality, with classical influences particularly evident in the keyboards and excellent guitar parts.
