“Inferno” è un film di Dario Argento del 1980, generalmente considerato uno dei capolavori del regista romano. In quel particolare periodo il sodalizio artistico instaurato coi Goblin, autori delle colonne sonore di “Profondo Rosso” e “Suspiria”, si era sostanzialmente sfaldato, mentre oltremanica lo scioglimento degli Emerson, Lake & Palmer rese finalmente possibile per Argento la realizzazione di un sogno: collaborare con un artista della scena prog inglese.
Keith Emerson fu quindi invitato a raggiungere Dario Argento a Roma, per scrivere, registrare e dirigere la colonna sonora di “Inferno”, che divenne così il suo primo vero LP solista. Il risultato è un album che ha fatto Storia, da sempre nel cuore degli amanti delle colonne sonore dei film horror, dominato, com’è del resto lecito aspettarsi, da partiture pianistiche e orchestrazioni talvolta imponenti, talvolta soffuse, in base al mood delle scene della pellicola. Nel lotto di brani “Taxi ride (home)” e “Cigarettes, ices, etc.” si evidenziano per la loro ‘anima rock’, grazie all’uso di una robusta sezione ritmica.
Ristampato in vinile da AMS Records nel 2011, in un’edizione ormai esaurita, “Inferno” torna oggi nuovamente disponibile in una nuova versione graficamente identica all’originale, in vinile rosso e con un esclusivo poster 50x30cm in allegato.

At that particular time, the artistic partnership established with Goblin, who wrote the soundtracks for “Profondo Rosso” and “Suspiria”, had essentially crumbled, while in the UK Emerson, Lake & Palmer had just disbanded; Argento was therefore able to make a dream come true: to collaborate with an artist from the English prog-rock scene.
Keith Emerson was then invited to reach Dario Argento in Rome, to write, record, and direct the soundtrack of “Inferno”, which became his first solo LP. The result is an album that has made history and that will always have a special place in the hearts of horror films soundtracks fanatics. “Inferno” is, of course, lead by piano and orchestral scores, sometimes rushing, sometimes soft and delicate, depending on the mood of the scenes of the movie. The two songs “Taxi ride (home)” and “Cigarettes, ices, etc.” stand out for their ‘rock soul’, due to the presence of a robust rhythm section.
Reissued on vinyl by AMS Records in 2011, in an now-deleted edition, “Inferno” is now available again in a new version, on red vinyl and an exclusive 50x30cm poster.
