“Beauty is the Beast” is a progressive rock concept album inspired by the fairytale written by Leprince De Beaumont in 1756, which tries to look at the actions and the characters from a different point of view, through the eyes of contemporary man, with his guilt, his envy, the sneaky games played by the couple and the consequent revenge.
The story’s characters (Beauty, the Beast, Beauty’s father, Beauty’s sisters, the Rose and the Storyteller) speak with voices that are sometimes caricatured, sometimes modulated to try to illuminate the dark sides of the identities at stake. The Rose, symbol of pure beauty, uniqueness and completeness stands tall and escapes every musical and verbal attack unscathed. In our version of the story, the Rose is the element that unites the concept of beauty and bestiality; this concept is complete and everything leans towards it.
The characters each represent only part of the virtues of the Rose; they use the flower to make up for their dark side, inserting into vortices of events and passions. Unlike the Rose, they will never be satisfied with themselves and will never establish a balanced relationship with what surrounds them unless they enter into “pathological” relationships in which to release their tensions. Therefore, the Rose, in its uniqueness, sublimes everything within itself and places the emphasis of doubts and the social attitudes of our western culture.
